People Leadership – What Is It And How To Develop It? – Part 2

If you haven’t read the first part of People Leadership, go back to the previous blog post. Here is part 2 for you.

Feedback

To build a valuable feedback culture for your team and company, you need to be a role model. Feedback not only requires giving feedback, but also taking it.

It is important to give feedback to the team – to the entire team or in 1:1 conversations. This is, of course, not only for when something goes wrong but also when something went well. There are different ways of giving feedback. Here are a few to get you started. Choose the one that works best for you or develop your own. If you want to get deeper into the different models, you can find more info about them online.

Having conversations

As a leader there will be different kinds of conversations that you will have to do with your team. We suggest to ensure having clear outcomes set and keep different topics separately in different conversations. There is a place for everything. First ask yourself if the conversation will be with the entire team, some parts of the team or on a 1:1 basis.

Motivation

We have already talked about motivation in a previous blog post of the book. This was for motivating yourself. However, this, of course, applies to your team as well. And as a leader it is your responsibility to ensure your team stays motivated and to give tools to hand for self-motivation.

Happiness factor

Health and well-being of yourself and your team members should play a big part in your role as a leader. More about that in the next chapter. Happiness can be one factor of health and well-being. There are actually tools out there that help you to monitor this for your team members. One of the tools you could use is Friday Pulse (www.fridaypulse.com) which measures happiness at work by asking ‘How are you feeling at work this week?’ Open dialogue and all the things that we already mentioned are also playing into the happiness factor.

If you would like to explore all of these points further, you can take a look at the book ‘The 3 pillars of leadership’ here.
