How To Be More Productive By Knowing Yourself – Part 2

In the last blog post we started looking into how to be more productive by knowing yourself. Let’s continue.

INBOX HABITS

Have a look at your e-mail inbox. How are you handling it? What system do you have? Do you file your e-mails into subfolders? What are happening with your received and your sent e-mails? How do you ensure to keep track of your e-mails? There are questions to get you started to identify things you can do to improve your productivity regarding e-mail handling.

TO DO LISTS

There are some discussions going on about having a To Do list or not. I personally think everyone should have one. With all the information that we have to handle, it is difficult and pretty much impossible to keep every detail in your head and not forgetting something.

In step 5 we will look more into what kind of tools and ToDo lists are out there that will help you to keep track of your tasks. You need to acknowledge though that there are different tools that work for different people. You need to find your preferred way of having a ToDo list. This can come in all kind of shapes and tools.

How do you work? How do you keep track of your tasks? What gives you satisfaction when completing a task? Which tools do you currently use (app, notebook, piece of paper, nothing)?

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Your work environment can have a massive impact on your productivity. For me, for example, if my desk and my work environment are really messy, I find it difficult to focus. It is as if my work environment reflects my mind. Having said that, it doesn’t mean that you have to have a super clean, minimalist work environment. A creative work environment is stimulating. But again, this depends on what works for you.

Changing the work environment on a regular basis will also help you to be more productive.

What does your work environment look like? Is it chaos or is it tidy? Do you change it regularly? Is it dark or light? Is it noisy or quiet? Do you have any decorations? Is it a creative environment? Is it comfortable?
